No Defence

I watch them running

a little further.

They know I would never
abandon them.
And nevertheless

they stop and look for me
at regular intervals. Apprehension in their eyes
reassurance in mine.
Do we belong to each other
as they do? like the ones
who have no choice

but torment and ardour.
No defence.

Nessuna Difesa

le guardo correre
più lontane.

Sanno che non le
abbandonerei mai.
Eppure si fermano e
mi cercano
a intervalli regolari.
Apprensione nei loro occhi
rassicurazione nei miei.
Apparteniamo l’un l’altra
come loro? Come chi
non ha altra scelta

che il tormento e l’ardore.
Nessuna difesa.

Pollens

They leave by detachment, one by one and in clusters, layering. A seeming fragility.
Pollen grains and their microspores are one of the most resistant substances in the plant world.
Under anoxic conditions, they linger in ponds and fens for thousands to millions of years.
They mirror the past in the future. A story of earlier vegetation and climate status.
Pollens waft through me.
They intersect my white and the flight of the mesmerising orange-blue kingfisher and bee-eater on the Bacchiglione.
And in like manner, absence wafts through us. Fragile and resistant, our morphology gradually degraded. Walls and apertures to indicate our structure.
Lie down on the ground with me like a layer. The woolly soil teasels substratum and soles and moisture wets palms holding the leash.
It’s so windy lately.

Pollini

Stenditi a terra con me come uno strato.
